Thirty years ago a Moose had an offspring…. That offspring was called Bear, and that Bear is Me! Welcome to The Bear Den. My name is Sara Witteveen and I was born and raised and am now residing in the beautiful little village of Pentwater, Michigan. That Moose would be my Dad, he has called me Bear for as long as I can remember and that is why I was set on calling our family business The Bear Den. Because that’s what it means to us, our family. This is our Den and this is why we only have family member’s working at it!
I have always loved working with my hands and creating something with them. In High School I had the opportunity to be in the Multi Media class where I got to play with a camera for the first time and I was hooked. I loved being able to show people the way I see things around the world through just one photograph I take. It’s been a hobby now for about 15 years and naturally was integrated into our inventory when we decided to open up the store.
A fun fact about the canvas prints is all of them are taken right in Pentwater. So when you purchase one you get to take a little piece of our paradise with you wherever you go.
Like I said I have always liked working with my hands and my husband is in the tree business so I have ample amounts of wood at my disposal. The creative gene I inherited from my family has my mind’s wheels always turning with new ideas. One day I decided to make something for a friend and I wanted to integrate wood into it. So I got a block of wood out of our wood pile, I sanded it down the best I could, and I picked up a wood burner for the first time and the first thing I thought of to draw was? A bear of course! And the bear that I drew became the official logo to our business “The Bear Den!”
So, we hope you like what you see and our inventory is growing nearly day by day. If you can dream it up I can promise you I’ll try my best to make it a reality for you. Have a great time looking around and God Bless.
